Screen resolution

Your computer's screen resolution determines how much you see on a web page.
On 15" monitors, screen resolution is either 640x480 pixels (width x height) or 800x600 pixels.
On 17" monitors, screen resolution can be 1024x768.

This box is 640 pixels wide. No matter how your screen resolution is set, you will see the full width of this box.

Most websites today are designed for 800x600 resolution because designers want to get a lot on your screen at one time. But if your screen resolution is set for 640x480, there will be elements that cannot be seen in their entirety without the use of the horizontal scroll bar.

This box is 800 pixels wide. If your screen resolution is set at 640x480, you will not be able to see the full width without using the horizontal scroll bar. If it is set at 800x600, you will see the whole width without using the horizontal scroll bar -- but everything else on the screen will look relatively small.

You can change your setting via your Windows or Mac operating system (not your browser).

Windows help. Click Start to get a pop-up menu, click Help. In the index, look for screen resolution, how to change the size of the screen area. Follow directions.

Mac users, please refer to your help documentation.
