Three ways to open the

Right-click the Desktop
"My Computer" icon, then click Explore. |

The Windows Explorer has
two sides:
the Explorer Bar
on the left, the Contents
Pane on the right. |

| Explorer bar. The
plus (+) signs mean that there is more than
meets the eye. Click a plus sign to expand the
contents of the drive or folder. The + will
become a minus (-). Click the minus sign to
collapse the contents. |

On the View menu, if "large icons" is marked, the folders look
like file folders, and document files look like documents.
This view is not useful. |

On the View menu, if "Details"
is marked, the names of folders and files are shown along with
information about them. This is the most useful view. Note the gray bar across
the top of the Contents Panel. Click on Name, Size, Type or Modified to
reorder the list. |

To create a new folder:
Highlight
the folder that needs a sub-folder (below, My
Documents).
Then open the File menu, click on
"New," then "Folder."
A folder
will appear called "New folder," which you
can rename by writing in another name. |

Hint: You can also right-click in the
Contents Pane. |

Copying and moving files |
|
Copy a file: In the
Contents Pane, select a file by clicking its name
once.
Go to the Edit menu > Copy
In the Explorer Bar, select a folder by clicking
its name once.
Go to the Edit menu > Paste |

Move a file: In the
Contents Pane, select a file by
clicking its name once.
Go to the Edit menu > Cut
In the Explorer Bar, select a folder by clicking
its name once.

Note:
You can drag and drop files, but that's a little
tricky.
